Unprecedented Shared Lives Growth Working in Partnership
How we worked with some great partners to grow Shared Lives across the UK
During COVID-19, Avalon Group came together with some wonderful partner organisations including Shared Lives Plus, Shared Lives South West, Possabilities and Camphill Village Trust, to use innovate how Shared Lives works, and to increase carer numbers faster than ever before.
Together, we took a digital approach to more than double our average yearly recruitment of Shared Lives carers over a five-month period.
“In a good year, we’ll aim to attract 12-20 carers. However, during the project, we managed to successfully recruit 30 across Avalon,” says James Plummer, Head of Business Development and Communications at Avalon Group. “It’s a testament to what we can achieve when we work in partnership, and also how Shared Lives can grow with further investment in new ways of working.”
Avalon has committed to continuing its work in developing new methods to raise awareness of Shared Lives both locally and regionally, giving more people with care and support needs the chance to be supported in a safe, family environment.
What is Shared Lives?
Shared Lives carers open their homes to provide either a short or long term living arrangement to people with a care or support need. It’s similar to fostering, but for adults rather than children. Most importantly, Shared Lives offers personalised support in a safe, family environment, helping people to grow and thrive.
